Have you seen my sock?

It never fails to surprise me how easy it is to misplace something.
I do my laundry about once, maybe twice per week, buying new socks about every 6 months or so.
Around the end of the sock rotation, somehow I always end up with one type of sock that doesn't belong with the others.
How does this happen?
